Game Worlds

We currently offer groups in five different game worlds that span the fantasy and sci-fi spectrum. Each world has a rich and vivid atmosphere all its own, meticulously crafted over the last 30 years by both the Game Master and their players. The accompanying game systems range from simple to complex, and we have offerings for players new or experienced in any of these systems.

If you want to take a closer look at any of our programs, consider stopping by for a site visit to see our games in action! Contact us to setup a visit!

Within each Game World, you can get a glimpse of our current campaigns by viewing the blog for each game on the Game World page.

Abantey  (spaces available – all ages)

Thousands of years ago, seven Creators – beings of immense knowledge and power – founded the world of Abantey. Each shaped a land and people that was a reflection of their Ways. Os’Baluud whispered of forests tall and broad, animals and people living in harmony. Os’Feesha wove a tale of pleasure and relaxation. Os’Gnihton hailed a world of ever-changing life. Os’Plajet jabbered of tricks, wonders and feats to make all laugh. Os’Sakeet roared of honor, combat, and heroes. Os’Ta’as muttered of rigorous inquiry and amazing discoveries. Os’Wa’la detailed a land and people dedicated to hardship.

The peoples of Abantey are divided between those who are Marked – those who follow the Ways of their Creator – or Rogue – those who have broken away from the Creators’ Ways and seek to forge their own future. You play an adventurer, the brave and talented few that the Creator Temples and Rogue Guilds rely on to protect innocent common folk, handle sensitive missions, and solve mysteries and crimes.

Abantey is the game world that has been the heart of The Roleplay Workshop for more than 27 years. The world and game system of Abantey were conceived to focus on physical, biological, and cultural realism – something many other game systems avoid – while still pushing the boundaries of imagination and creativity that are the hallmark of tabletop roleplaying games.

Apoc-Abantey   (limited spaces available – age 21+)

The Creators and their stars have fallen from the sky. The Guilds are in full collapse. Coastal trade cities are ravaged by tsunami. Mountains weep fire and brimstone. The sky fills with ash. Those who survive wonder why – how could this happen? Which of the Creators still live, and what will they do now? Who will rise to power to save Abantey, or ruin it?

It’s up to the few remaining intrepid adventurers to find an answer to these questions while saving the desperate survivors from threats on all sides. Meanwhile, in the forgotten corners of the world… ancient entities stir… finding opportunity in catastrophe. Some whisper that there are even worse things coming…

This is an alternate, apocalyptic timeline of the Abantey Game Universe. These campaigns involve serious, mature themes and are designed specifically for adults.

Burning Wheel   (Full – age 21+)

The Burning Wheel is a fantasy role-playing game independently written and published by Luke Crane. The game uses a dice pool mechanic (using only standard six-sided dice) for task resolution and a character generation system that tracks the history and experiences of new characters from birth to the point they begin adventuring. The game system is a perfect vehicle for a skilled GM creating their own gaming world.

Steve’s Burning Wheel game fuses the classic elements of fantasy – elves, humans, and orcs – with the machinations of Gods and Churches living and forgotten. In a time of brewing war between nation-states, the undead have returned! Agents of the nobility have forged a common purpose with agents of the Church of Honor and Justice, to hunt down those responsible, and put down the forces of darkness.

Cyberpunk (spaces available – ages 18+)

Cyberpunk is the original roleplaying game of the dark future — a world of corporate assassins, heavy-metal heroes and brain burning hackers packed with cutting edge technology and intense urban action. The future never looked so bad — but you, the ultimate Cyberpunk, can change it!

We use the original game system of Cyberpunk 2020, by Mike Pondsmith, with house rules to fit our current technological trajectory. The setting explores the growing inequity between the haves and the have nots, the conflicts between corporations, and the emergence of genetic abnormalities in humans.

Becky’s Cyberpunk games are set in the near future of the Bay Area. There are rumors that there is a connection between Becky’s Cyberpunk, Abantey, and Serenity settings.

Serenity (available by request)

Here’s How It Is… The Earth got used up, and we found a new solar system and used terraforming technology to create hundreds of new Earths. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided that all worlds should unite under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point. After the Unification War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control.

Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies. A ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain’s goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

The Serenity Role Playing Game lets you recreate the action of the ‘Verse, the science-fiction setting created by writer/director Joss Whedon. Fly a ship out in the black, take jobs as they come, and always make sure you get paid.

We use the original Serenity game system by Jamie Chambers & Margaret Weis, with some house rules, of course!

Abantey was the first camp I went to where being smart and a little weird was just normal.
